Kestin's Corner - We're more than a brand, we're a family.

Here’s a startling statistic: The rate of family homelessness has doubled since March 2020. The lack of affordable housing options, childcare, and mental health support in our community adversely impacts our most vulnerable neighbors, including children. To make things even more difficult, having an inconsistent living situation can affect how a child learns. Meanwhile, having a safe space to call home can help a child feel secure, confident, and peaceful when at school.

To that end, we’ve long been huge fans of Lydia Place, a nonprofit organization serving individuals experiencing homelessness in Whatcom County. Each year they host a fundraising gala and auction; this event is so popular it’s almost always sold out.

Well, this year their auction is going virtual and EVERYONE’S invited. Even better – admission is FREE! Reserve your spot at the 2022 Hearts for Housing Virtual Auction being held on Friday, March 25, at 7pm. You can even upgrade your tickets to include a four-course catered dinner including wine or cocktails, early access to the auction, and VIP goodies.

Other ways to participate are to donate an item for the auction or become an event sponsor. Join us in helping Lydia Place continue to do essential work caring for some of our most vulnerable neighbors here in Whatcom County.

Last year at Hearts for Housing, our community was able to come together and raise over $250,000 for families experiencing homelessness in our community. As we continue to see the need for services rise and the impacts of the pandemic continue to affect our most vulnerable neighbors adversely, your participation this year is even more critical to ensuring mission success.

At Hempler’s we love getting a front-row seat to the work that Lydia Place is doing in our community and can’t WAIT for this year’s event. We hope to “see” you there!
