Kestin's Corner - We're more than a brand, we're a family.

‘Tis the season for pumpkin spice, and here at Hempler’s we got curious…what would happen if we let bacon in on this trend?

Now for all the nay-sayers, let us be clear. Pumpkin Spice bacon does not taste like pumpkin. It’s glazed with brown sugar and the earthy spices that are typically used to flavor dishes that feature pumpkin: cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. What results is a delicious combo of sweet-and-savory with a hint of spice that gives your taste buds a treat reminiscent of all things autumn.

Seriously…trust us. Don’t knock it ‘till you’ve tried it.

Pumpkin Spice Glazed Bacon

1 pkg Hempler’s Original Center Cut Bacon
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
½ tsp. nutmeg
½ tsp. allspice
¼ tsp. Cloves

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Line rimmed baking sheet with foil. Place baking rack on top.
Place bacon on baking rack in single layer.
Combine brown sugar and spices in small bowl.
Spread half the sugar/spice mix on the bacon.
Bake for 10 minutes.
Flip bacon, and spread remaining sugar/spice mix on the bacon.
Bake for 5 additional minutes.
Check bacon for doneness.
Continue cooking at 2-minute intervals to avoid burning the sugar glaze.
Bacon is done when glaze mixture is dark brown and bacon is crisp.

This recipe is a great addition to a holiday bunch gathering or chopped and added to a mix of spiced nuts for a delicious seasonal snack. If you love pumpkin spice you’ll definitely love this recipe…and if you’ve been slow to jump on the trend, this just might change your mind.
