Sandwiches have gotten a bad reputation as a boring, sub-par, and low-effort meal option. And, sure, you can throw a piece of lunchmeat between two slices of bread and call it a sandwich. But here at Hempler’s, we don’t do anything half-heartedly. When we talk about sandwiches, we’re talking about SANDWICHES. Those all-in, mouthwatering, stacked-higher-than-you-can-fit-in-your-mouth variety.
So the next time you decide to have sandwiches for dinner, don’t despair. Instead, GET EXCITED at the possibilities. Can’t decide what kind to make? Here are seven to try.
BLT: Sure, you’ve had BLTs in your life. And we think any of our bacon varieties are the perfect central ingredient. But if you’re not paying just as much attention to the tomato, the bread, the lettuce, and the mayo…you probably haven’t had the ultimate. Bon Appetit has devised a list of rules to follow to make the perfect BLT. Follow them, and see what a difference it makes.
Turkey Bacon Ranch Sandwich: This classic goes next-level with a pretzel bun from The Spruce Eats. All the flavors you love come together easily; this sandwich makes an amazingly delicious dinner practically effortless.
Bacon Grilled Cheese: OK, we’ll admit that the basic grilled cheese is pretty awesome. But the addition of bacon takes it up a notch, and perusing recipes that add things like sliced apples, brie, caramelized onions, or blackberry jam have our mouths watering as we consider the possibilities. One in particular that caught our eye was this one from Food & Wine made with cheese curds!
Kentucky Hot Brown: Make this historical sandwich right in your own kitchen. This open-faced sandwich is piled with turkey and tomatoes, smothered in a creamy cheese-based sauce, and topped with crispy bacon. The House of Nash Eats will walk you through the whole process!
Monte Cristo Sandwich: If you’ve never had a Monte Cristo, it’s essentially a cross between a grilled ham & cheese and French toast. Assemble your sandwich, dip the whole thing in an egg batter, and fry it up. Depending on the recipe you use you might add mustard, jam, powdered sugar, or even syrup. Our Butcher Cut Bacon (formerly called European Brand Bacon) is the perfect meat for this sandwich. Try this recipe from Carlsbad Cravings!
Panini: We love the crispy outside and gooey inside of a classic panini. If you don’t have a panini press, place a cast iron pan on top of your sandwich or wrap a brick in aluminum foil and use it as a press. Try this recipe from Half Baked Harvest for a Honey, Apple, Cheddar, and Bacon Panini.
Spicy Chicken Sandwich: We don’t have an opinion on the fast-food chicken sandwich wars. But we DO have an opinion on whose bacon you should use when you DIY one in your kitchen. This version from Savory Experiments uses grilled chicken with the heat added from a homemade aioli.
Ready to make your next sandwich memorable? Grab our traditional center cut bacon, our butcher cut (European) bacon, our hams, or our chicken roasts for an easy way to take your sandwich to the next level.
