GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Processing Manager is a proactive, servant leader with a strong floor presence whose skills contribute to the efficient, systematic and profitable operation of the meat receiving, handling, processing, and smokehouse operations at the Hempler’s manufacturing plant in Ferndale, WA. Responsible for improving safety, increasing efficiency, delivering quality, outstanding cost control, and ensuring continuous improvement. This manager has the proven ability to lead and grow teams using TPM and Lean manufacturing principles.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Training and experience in continuous improvement techniques, i.e. Creative Problem Solving, Lean Manufacturing, and related approaches.
- A proven track record of successful and cost-effective management of a manufacturing facility, which includes the overseeing of all production, safety, and operations management responsibilities.
- In depth technical knowledge of food processing and packaging systems/equipment.
- Results oriented; seeks to accomplish critical tasks with measurable results.
- Well-developed business analytical skills including budgeting, financial management, understanding of margin, and business analysis.
- Ability to analyze key performance indicators and develop action plans based on results.
- Well trained and knowledgeable in performance management techniques including, expectations and goal setting, coaching, problem solving and progressive feedback.
- Ability to understand the dynamics and needs of a diverse workforce while motivating them to achieve ongoing improvements in business results.
- Positive leadership and communication style – approachable, able to influence others.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate within the operations team, as well as all other functional areas.
- Creative thinking skills – identification of issues & opportunities with the ability to develop creative solutions.
- Seeks out information, learning, and education to develop oneself and the plant leadership team.
- Well-developed writing skills
- Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in production management, with at least one assignment in packaging operations, preferably in the food processing industry.
- Experience with meat products and meat processing preferred, but not required.
- Knowledge of FSIS/USDA/FDA regulations
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Operations Management, Engineering, Food Science or related required or experience in lieu of education is acceptable.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assures site’s financial and organizational objectives are met at the lowest costs and highest quality consistent with company and customer expectations.
- Achieve greater efficiency and productivity ensuring company goals are met by overseeing the packaging operations and resources.
- Develop highly productive supervisors, leads and work teams by using training, mentoring and motivational techniques and by delegating specific duties to key resources.
- Improve the skill level and productivity of employees.
- Maintain good employee relations, ensuring consistent and fair application of policies and procedures. Provide counseling and job coaching as required.
- Work closely with Continuous Improvement and Engineering teams to find creative solutions to problems by providing and facilitating an environment which encourages innovation.
- Monitor all phases of production and ensure that all procedures, specifications and standards are met and by maintaining effective communication with all employees, creating meeting budgets and controlling costs.
- Monitor and administer HACCP program, insisting on accurate, complete and timely compliance.
- Maintain good relations with USDA inspectors.
- Encourage safety by ensuring a clean safe working environment, and that all employees follow prescribed safety procedures, including personal protective equipment.
- Follow established programs, policies, and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements.
- Maintain accountability to company safety and quality principles and standards.
- Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the SQF Systems.
SCHEDULE:
- 5:30am – 4:00pm subject to changes depending on companies needs
PAY RANGE:
$95,000.00 - $115,000.00 annually, subject to all required taxes
