Plant Manager – Onsite – Ferndale, WA

REPORTS TO:

Director of Operations

GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position will manage the successful operation of production, maintenance, and warehouse operations at a premium meat processing and packaging facility. Responsible for the leadership, development, and safety of teammates. Overall responsibility for food safety compliance to USDA and third-party audit standards and ensuring food safety practices.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Continuous Improvement
• Responsible for continually improving the processes and increase the overall efficiency of the operation in the following areas of focus:
o Safety
o Quality
o Productivity
o Service
o Cost Reductions
• Utilize lean manufacturing or other process improvement techniques to provide an
organized and process-oriented approach to improvement initiatives and problem solving.
• Define and implement objectives in each area of operation for continuous improvement.
• Work cooperatively with others to implement best practices leading to improvements at the facility.

Operations Management
• Establishing and delivering on plant efficiency goals.
• Managing cost of production.

Teammate Development
• Work to develop the leadership team at an individual and team level.
• Develop individual development plans with each team member and foster an environment that encourages life-long learning.
• Utilize organizational resources to accomplish development needs.

Performance Management
• Develop clearly defined goals and objectives and communicate effectively to all teammates to ensure alignment.
• Balance attainment of short-term goals and daily management while continuing to work on long-term improvement strategies.
• Provide focused and organized leadership to lead the plant management team toward attainment of goals.

Teammate Relations
• Drive the overall business culture of balancing the drive for results with the drive for teammate morale.
• Communicate frequently and effectively with the organization.
• Communicate, enforce, and lead by example all company values, policies, and procedures.

Safety
• Maintain compliance with and improve performance toward Health, Safety and Environmental regulations and established goals.
• Provide and promote a safe work environment.

Quality
• Deliver customer-acceptable products by enforcing quality standards and developing on-going continuous improvement plans.
• Provide leadership to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and enforcement of GMP’s and HACCP program requirements.

Strategic Leadership
• Develop manufacturing organizational strategies by contributing manufacturing information, analysis, and recommendations to strategic thinking and direction, establishing functional objectives in line with
organizational objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A proven track record of successful and cost-effective management of a manufacturing facility, which includes the overseeing of all production, safety, and operations management responsibilities.
  • In depth technical knowledge of food processing and packaging systems/equipment.
  • Results oriented; seeks to accomplish critical tasks with measurable results.
  • Well-developed business analytical skills including budgeting, financial management, understanding of margin, and business analysis.
  • Ability to analyze key performance indicators and develop action plans based on results.
  • Well trained and knowledgeable in performance management techniques including, expectations and goal setting, coaching, problem solving and progressive feedback.
  • Ability to understand the dynamics and needs of a diverse workforce while motivating them to achieve ongoing improvements in business results.
  • Positive leadership and communication style – approachable, able to influence others.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within the operations team, as well as all other functional areas.
  • Comprehensive project management skills, including project prioritization, resource allocation, follow-up, and communication.
  • Creative thinking skills – identification of issues & opportunities with the ability to develop creative solutions.
  • Seeks out information, learning, and education to develop oneself and the plant leadership team.
  • Well-developed writing skills
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Operations Management, Engineering, Food Science or related required or experience in lieu of education is acceptable.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience progressively increasing responsibility in production management, with at least 5 years as a senior level production manager and/or plant manager in the food processing industry.
  • Experience with meat products and meat processing preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of FSIS/USDA/FDA regulations
  • Training and experience in continuous improvement techniques, i.e. Creative Problem Solving, Lean Manufacturing, and related approaches.

SCHEDULE:

  • Hours will be 5:30 A.M. – 3:00 P.M.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sitting in normal seated position and standing for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.

PAY RANGE:

$120,000.00 - $150,000.00 annually, subject to all required taxes and withholdings.
