Kestin's Corner - We're more than a brand, we're a family.

You may have noticed a little emblem on several of our products. It reads “small batch crafted meats” and declares our commitment to the time-honored family recipes we are proud to share with the world.

But what does that really mean, and why does it matter? Here’s the scoop on why small batch production matters.

What Is Small Batch Production?

Small batch food production is used by food manufacturers who want to preserve the quality and authenticity of their recipes. When a recipe is mass-produced, there comes a point where it no longer scales and the end result suffers. For example, if you have a tried-and-true home-cooked dish, you might simply double all the recipe ingredients to make twice as much. But if you tried to make that same recipe with 100 times the ingredients in a commercial food-manufacturing facility, your final product probably wouldn’t taste the same as it does in your kitchen. At a certain size, the math and chemistry stop working the same way and adjustments need to be made to make the final dish taste like it should.

Small-batch food producers choose to produce smaller amounts of their products at one time, rather than sacrificing quality to scale up for a potentially larger single-run production.

Why Does Small Batch Matter?

Small batch matters for two primary reasons: quality and authenticity. When using large-scale production techniques, food manufacturers may use chemical additives or recipe adjustments to compensate for the degradations in the final product. At Hempler’s, we have always remained true to the original Hempler family recipes and have never been tempted to cut costs or increase our profits by making changes to our processes and ingredients. We are humbled by the trust our customers place in us, and we don’t take it lightly. Therefore, we have always chosen to forego the ease and cost-saving shortcuts to produce larger-scale, inferior versions of our time-honored products.

When it comes to your food, everything matters. Ingredients. Sourcing. Quality. The production process. A commitment to small batch means a commitment to your satisfaction, and we thank you for choosing Hempler’s time and again.
