Packaging Line Worker

REPORTS TO:

Packaging Lead / Packaging Supervisor

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Work closely with co-workers in packaging the highest quality products within the required schedules, while meeting the strictest requirements related to food preparation. The position can be physically demanding and you will work closely, both physically and in coordinated efforts, with your co-workers.

  • Previous food plant experience helpful.
  • Good understanding of labels.
  • Problem solving skills.

  • Be flexible and willing to work various shifts as needed.
  • Show enthusiasm, initiative and pride in work.
  • Experience working in a customer-focused and fast-paced environment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: 1 year progressively responsible related experience required. Additional education or certification may be substituted for some experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare product for vacuum processing.
  • Prepare boxes, labels and pallets for upcoming jobs.
  • Assist in checking inventory of boxes, labels, etc.
  • Stock and sort product for packaging or filling machine operation, and replenish packaging supplies, such as wrapping paper, plastic sheet, boxes, cartons, glue, ink, or labels.
  • Stop or reset machines when malfunctions occur, and report malfunctions to a supervisor.
  • Attach identification labels to finished packaged items, or cut stencils and stencil information on containers, such as lot numbers or shipping destinations.
  • Inspect and remove defective products and packaging material.
  • Package the product in the form in which it will be sent out.
  • Regulate machine flow, speed, or temperature.
  • Clean packaging containers, line and pad crates, and/or assemble cartons to prepare for product packing.
  • Secure finished packaged items by hand tying, sewing, gluing, stapling, or attaching fastener
  • Sort, grade, weigh, and inspect products, verifying and adjusting product weight or measurement to meet specifications.
  • Stack finished packages of items, or wrap protective material around each item and pack the items in cartons or containers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Stand up for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, stretches, twists, or reaches with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers, hands and arms to grasp, manipulate, or assemble different size objects.
  • Communication skills using the spoken word.
  • Ability to see within normal parameters.
  • Ability to hear within normal range.
  • Ability to lift at least 20 pounds.
  • Ability to quickly and accurately compare similarities and differences among sets of letters, numbers, objects, pictures, or patterns.
  • Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).

PAY RANGE:

$18 - $25
